UNITING THE TWIC PEOPLE
The Twic Federation brings together the Twic people across all regions under a shared cultural identity — strengthening social ties, preserving heritage, and creating frameworks for cooperation across communities and the diaspora.
WHO WE ARE
The Twic Federation is a cultural and social platform that unites the Twic people under their shared Dinka heritage. For generations, the Twic communities have recognized their common ancestry, upheld shared traditions, and maintained mutual respect across geographic boundaries. The Twic people, with their deep roots in the pastoral and agricultural traditions of South Sudan, have maintained a distinctive cultural identity characterized by their language, oral traditions, cattle herding practices, and strong community bonds.
Today, the Federation serves as the practical expression of that bond — a voluntary structure designed to strengthen social ties, preserve cultural practices, and create a sustainable framework for cooperation between communities and their diaspora populations across the globe. Established in 2026, the Twic Federation brings together individuals and communities from Twic East in Jonglei State, Twic West in Warrap State, and Twic communities in the diaspora across East Africa, North America, Australia, Europe, and beyond.
The Federation operates on principles of voluntary participation, transparent governance, and respect for traditional leadership structures. It coordinates cultural preservation efforts, facilitates dialogue and peacebuilding, mobilizes resources for community support, and maintains connections between homeland and diaspora communities. Through its work, the Federation affirms that cultural identity and community solidarity are not relics of the past, but living forces that can shape a more cohesive and resilient future.
We are not a political or administrative authority. We are a community-led body committed to the dignity, continuity, and wellbeing of the Twic people everywhere they reside. Our strength lies in our diversity, our commitment to dialogue, and our shared vision of a Twic community that is united in heritage and united in purpose.
